At CML we are committed to working with our employees and partners to reduce our carbon footprint.
To achieve this, we have a dedicated team constantly working towards the company's objectives and carbon neutral goal:
- Environmental committee in place
- Achieved zero landfill in September 2012, with 100% of waste being recycled
- Board commitment to be Carbon Neutral by 2015
- Reduction in the use of non-renewable resources
CML recognises the need for our business to be as environmentally sustainable and responsible as possible. CML has therefore set a target to reduce our carbon footprint to no more than 500 tonnes CO2 per annum. Various measures have been implemented to help achieve this, including an overhaul of our recycling measures so that we now send zero waste to landfill, and the installation of automatically opening and closing bay doors improving energy efficiency. In partnership with the Carbon Trust, all lighting in the business has been changed to energy efficient, low emission, movement sensored bulbs . Finally, posters and signage around site act as a friendly reminder to all colleagues of the need to be environmentally responsible.
In 2012, CML had achieved one of the key goals of this project, reducing our carbon footprint to 481.88 tonnes CO2 for the year, representing more than an 80% reduction since 2009.
In order to achieve the goal of being Carbon Neutral, CML have sponsored a tree planting project with eForests to help mitigate our carbon emissions. Trees are responsibly planted and maintained in various locations around the UK, most of which are near a public footpath or bridleway. This tree planting project offset 120 tonnes CO2 in 2012 and will expand in 2013 and the coming years in order for CML to achieve its objective of having a net carbon footprint of zero tonnes CO2.
