What to know how CML was launched and how it’s grown over the years? Find out here
Core Management Logistics (CML) has established itself as a leading warehouse and distribution specialist on a global scale, so it may be surprising to know that the company is just 25 years old.
CML, which currently boasts a diverse portfolio of approximately 35 customers including Marks & Spencer and LK Bennett, owes its origins to the Meller Group, one of the largest accessories, home and beauty suppliers In the UK.
It was formed by the Meller Group in 1990 as part of a Marks & Spencer consolidation initiative. CML initially supported Marks and Spencer (M&S) by reducing the number of its supplier collection points in the UK however, over the years it has gone onto offer a variety of other services to the company and in 2007 was awarded the M&S direct consolidation business. This means that CML now works directly with M&S rather than working on behalf of a supplier who services the company, as it did before.
As well as M&S, CML, based in Lutterworth, Leicestershire, has also gone onto provide warehouse and distribution services to many distinguished brands and in 2004 extended its customer base considerably to include well-known names such as Hush Puppies, Blacks Leisure, CAT, and Millets.
Furthermore, in 2008, it established an international freight and customer brokerage function, working either directly or with trusted partners to provide customers with an end-to-end supply chain solution from origin through to final customer delivery.
Today the company, which enjoyed a turnover of £16m in the last financial year, provides a wealth of options to clients which include e-commerce, pre-retail and value added services. It also boasts an array of major UK and international retail customers such as Triumph Cosmetics, Halfords and Björn Borg lingerie.
Building on past success, CML continues to focus on each individual client’s needs to ensure an individually tailored solution that is flexible, innovative and forward thinking.
