Our new Business Apprentice tells us about his role at CML
Since the beginning of 2016 I've been working in different areas of CML, which is a great experience and I'm enjoying the change. At the beginning of this month I got involved with assisting the HR department with job interviews, making adjustments to job descriptions and staff discrepancies in order to understand the HR process.
During my time in the HR department, I was given the opportunity to create a charity competition and internal communication collateral for this competition. I had the chance to oversee and participate in group inductions which was really helpful as it allowed me to meet other people within the business. I am currently finishing the HR unit on my course so I was able to use first-hand case studies from CML in my work in order to boost my grade. Not only has this been a great experience for me to help choose which area I want to further my education, it is also helping my school work.
More recently, I've been working in the Operations Department based in CML's new warehouse, CML2. Working with the Operations team, has, again, been a great experience. I am learning so many new things and seeing how the supervisors manage a warehouse is really interesting.
At the moment we are focussing on the Quality Control department and making adjustments where needed. To do this we watch the department closely, taking notes on how it runs in order to ascertain if we need another employee or process to help with quality control. Other jobs I'm assisting with include checking the stock and making sure the type of packaging (box, packet, roll etc.) is correct on the database.
Overall it has been a great start to the year for me at CML. Being able to work in these new departments has allowed me to look at how a business runs from a different perspective, which is a great opportunity. I'm looking forward to the months ahead.
