Core Management Logistics (CML) has taken part in an enterprise day at Lutterworth College to promote the importance of the logistics industry and the skills needed to work in the sector.

The 'Made in China' event was organised by Skills for Logistics in conjunction with a number of local employees which alongside CML, included Jaguar Land Rover, John Lewis and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK (CILT) to name just a few.

Andrew Dolby, Marketing Administration Officer at CML, attended the event and helped Year 10 pupils by offering guidance and advice with the tasks they had been set.

Teams of pupils were asked to move MP3 players from a factory in China to a music retailer in the UK, using the quickest and most efficient import route possible.

The event helped explain the role logistics plays as a key sector within the UK economy as well as introducing pupils to the broad range of careers on offer within the sector.

As part of the challenge, pupils were asked to create their own business name, logo and strapline and had to analyse the various transport methods available to them, taking into account time, cost and carbon footprint.

Andrew said, "My job was mostly to offer some guidance to pupils on the decisions they made and give them a real picture about what it's like to work in the industry.

"It was great to be involved in the project and I want to say a big thank you to Lutterworth College for inviting CML to take part in the event."
